Flat Mrs Cripps in Minnesota, USA, from Colleen to Zach W
The photo is of white-tailed deer. They live in the woods. They are big hazards to cars when they run out. When they are born they have white spots that fade as they get older. Sadly, there is a disease that is affecting many of them. It’s called chronic wasting disease. This is a picture of our national bird the bald eagle. We have a nest right next to our property in Wisconsin. They hunt for fish on the lake - Can you see the nest of a bald eagle.
I do like snow, if I don’t need to drive anywhere! It’s so pretty when it is falling. Right now is our summer. Snow falls during our winter that starts around November. We can get early snowfalls in October. During winter people like to do things outside like ice fishing They go out on lakes that are frozen and cut a hole and fish. This is a picture of our Christmas tree and you can see the snow outside of our window. When the snow comes the roads need to be cleared and there are big plows that remove the snow. Let me know if you have more questions.
Mrs
Cripps found out that there is lots of wildlife in MN and Wisconsin.
I have seen a wild black bear on Video knocking over my daughter's bird feeder. It then came over and left scat in our yard! We have deer, turtles, turkeys, frogs, roads, snakes, coyotes, and a few cougars in our wild I also included a picture of our national bird the bald eagle. It was hunting right out in front of our house on the lake.
Lots of people do go skiing in the winter. We go ice fishing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling. When we icefish we go out on to a lake that is frozen and cut a hole in the ice with an auger and fish through the hole.
During
the Christmas holiday we spend it with our families. During the summer
holidays, we like to go somewhere there is water and campgrounds. MN is called
the land of 10,000 lakes. There is actually more than 10,000. We also
have the Mississippi River by us. It runs from the northern part of the United
States all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico. It starts out very small (I have
asked across the start if it) and ends up being very wise, deep, and
polluted.

- Have you ever seen a bear in the wild?
I have seen
a lot of bears in the wild. Mostly black bears as I lived in a part of
the country that had bears roaming around close by to the city. I have
seen three grizzlies while hiking in the mountains (one of them had her two
cubs with her1). If you ever see a bear you need to be careful; don't
run away, get in between it and its cubs. You need to stay still and make
yourself as large as possible (stand on your tip toes with your backpack
balanced on your head).
- What native animals are there in Your country?
In Canada we have black,
grizzly bears and polar bears, deer, elk, moose, beavers, bison, lynx,
wolverine, Canada geese, and puffins Some pictures are attached :)
- Do you go skiing in winter? What is winter like?
I go cross country skiing (I've
never tried downhill skiing) and I snowboard. Winter here is very
cold. Last Winter we had a week of temperatures that were
around -30C...brrrr! You need to make sure you dress warmly. I like
the winter though, because the cold can be refreshing, I can build
snowmen and snow forts, go ice skating and hockey season is on.
- Where do you go for holidays?
Usually I drive to see my
family who live 18 hrs away from me in Winnipeg, Manitoba, (It is the province that is in the middle of Canada), each summer holiday and at Christmas. I also try to go
to the mountains to go camping. I've attached a picture to this email of
my favourite hike to do.
- Do you have many beaches?
Where I live in Calgary, Alberta we have to drive at least an hour
and a half to get to a beach.
