Hello again,
Today I have attached a few example photo’s of crops grown in the North East of
Scotland. A second email will follow with short video clips of harvesting
fields of spring sown barley and storage of the crop indoors waiting on transport
by lorry to large storage sheds.
The first ones are spring sown barley for harvest in late summer.
The next is oats, again sown in spring.
Then corn that still needs a few weeks before harvest.
And last we have an example of oil seed rape.
Another email to follow with examples of products made from this crops.
Speak soon,
Ann.
Hello from Flat Sienna in Scotland.
Flat Sienna has already seen the crops which some of the foods are made from,
now Flat Sienna went shopping and got some photo’s of typically Scottish foods,
one of the most well known is Haggis, which is eaten at a Burns Supper to
celebrate the birthday a famous Scottish poet, the date of this celebration is
the 25th of January.
St Andrew’s Day is on 30th of November and haggis neeps (turnip) and tatties
(potatoes) is normally eaten at this celebration too.
New Year’s Eve is known as Hogmanay in Scotland, and is celebrated with a
Ceilidh which is a party with music and dancing!
I’ve added some photos of some more Scottish foods, Oatcakes made from oats
which can be eaten with cheese or any other sweet or savoury topping.
The next photo is of Oatmeal which is used to make porridge for breakfast,
there’s also a photo of broth mix which is dried pulses like barley, lentils
and peas this is used to make soup with vegetables and meat.
The last photo is of Rapeseed oil which has only recently been produced in Scotland,
this particular oil brand is based in Inverurie.
Take care and stay safe.
