From Flat Paige in Wolverhmapton, England

Hello Paige,

Sorry I missed last week but I’ll make up for it this week with this update and then unfortunately my final one to follow.

So I will answer some questions first,

• have I ever seen a bear in the wild - no. I’d like to but I think I’d be scared!
•Native animals in the UK 🇬🇧 well we have foxes, red squirrel (sadly endangered species now), badgers, wild cats in the north but quite exciting is the reintroduction of beavers and wolves in conservation parks.
• do I go skiing? No I’m not a skier but I like winter which is normally cold, sometimes wet and when it snows very pretty.
• holidays- I love the Greek islands, lots of sun and amazing historic sights to see. There’s nothing like climbing a mountain for an hour to get to the Greek temple at the top overlooking the ocean. But we also love to staycation and spend a lot of time in Wales which is equally beautiful but maybe a bit wetter!!!
• beaches- we are an island so there’s lots of beaches, some sandy, some are just pebbles and some hide submerged forests that are over 4000 years old have a look on the internet it’s at Ynyslas in Wales.

Anyway Flat Paige went to the Grand Theatre and the Art Gallery, they were both built in the early 1800’s but unfortunately due to Covid-19 both are closed so we couldn’t go in.
I’ll finish off our final adventure on the next email........

Hi again Paige,

So to finish our tour of Wolverhampton we went to see how we transported goods around the country. So we went to the canal where two canals meet which could take us to the north or south depending on what we are transporting. Originally the barges were pulled by horses but now they have engines and are used for vacations or homes. The first photo shows the locks which you have to go through when there is a change in the land height, there’s no sloping fast lane on the canal!!
Finally we ended up at The Molineux stadium home of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football club since 1889 and one of the first stadiums to have floodlights (I didn’t know that until I looked into the history for you!) this is definitely somewhere your grandad would know and I imagine has probably been to support his local team.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing Wolverhampton, we (Flat Paige and myself) have had some great adventures showing you round. Unfortunately because of Covid-19 there’s not been any inside things I could show you but maybe when you’re a bit older you can visit and get Flat Paige to come back too and show you round! If not I’d be happy to!

I’ll be sending Flat Paige home so keep a look out for her, take care and stay safe,
Sarah xx

From Flat Sienna and Ann in Aberdeen, Scotland:

Hello,

Flat Sienna has been visiting our favourite beach, where we live we’re not far from Aberdeen beach but we prefer to visit one further up the coast at a place called Sandend, it’s a smaller quieter beach, just how we like it and our dogs get to paddle in the water too!
It’s hard to believe we are now into September which is the end of our summer and the start of Autumn. The temperature at this time of year can vary between 10c and 20c from day to day, there is often a lot of rain at this time of year which isn’t good for the farmers trying to harvest their crops, come October/November we may have the first snowfall of the year.
Scotland is famous for quite a number of things it’s beautiful mountain scenery which is spectacular, highland cattle which are unique to Scotland, Scottish Wool, Haggis, Whisky, Bagpipes which are played at many events throughout the year, and of course the Loch Ness Monster....

Now to answer your questions.
Have you seen a bear?
No I haven’t seen a bear...the only ones in Scotland are in wildlife parks.
What native animals are in my country.
We have red deer, badgers, grouse, brown hare, pine martens, wild cats and golden eagles.
Do you go skiing in winter? What is winter like?
I don’t go skiing. Winter here can be very frosty with quite low minus temperatures eg -7 and even lower on occasion, we can have some snow but not as much as up on the mountain ranges like Glenshee which is very popular with the skiers.
Where do you go on holiday?
Well me and my family take a lot of our holidays in the UK and sometimes go across to Ireland.
Do you have many beaches?
Yes we’re never far from a beach though we prefer to visit the smaller beaches on the Moray coast where sometimes you can see dolphins!
We also like to visit the many small fishing villages which are dotted round Scotland’s coast.
Hope you like the photo’s of Flat Siennas visit to Sandend.
