This week we went back to school but I will tell you more about that and the place where I live in a few days…

We hope you are all safe in Australia and that you can go back to school soon.

Au revoir! (Goodbye!)

On Tuesday, September 1, school started again. I was very excited about it because I like going to school and I was happy to see my friends again. In France, kids start going to ‘school’ at 3 years old. We call it school in France but it is like kindergarden. Then from 6 to 11 years old, we go to ‘primary school’. From 11 to 15 years old, we go to junior high and from 15 to 18 years old, we go to high school. From 3 to 11 years old, most of the kids go to school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday is off. We go to school from 8.30 am to 11.30 am, then we have a 2-hour lunch break (you can go eat at home, which is what I do, or you can eat at the canteen) and school starts again at 1.30 pm until 4.30 pm. There are 4 holidays during the school year : 1) 2 weeks in October, 2 weeks at Christmas time, 2 weeks in February-March (this is the holidays when people go skiing!!) and 2 weeks in April-May. School ends at the end of the first week of July.

Because we live in a small village, kindergarden and primary school are in the same building and there are 4 classes with a double level (with about 10-12 kids in each level) : - kids from 3 to 5 years old are in the same class, - kids from 5 to 7 years old are in the same class, - kids from 7 to 9 years old are in the same class, - and kids from 9 to 11 years old are in the same class. There are 4 teachers who teach two age levels at the same time. Beside regular subjects like French, Maths, History, etc, we work on various projects throughout the year. Over the previous years, we had projects like a rock’n roll choir, contemporary dancing, protecting the nature, arts to decorate the school building, a circus show, etc. We also take the bus sometimes to go visit a museum, see a movie in a theater… We do sports in the wood when the weather is nice and go for walks in the fields around the school. This year, because of the Covid-19 situation, we don’t know yet what activities we will be able to do… If you want to make activities like dancing, theater, singing, judo, swimming, etc, you can take classes through an association after school between 5 and 8 pm or on Wednesday and Saturday. This year, I am taking horse riding classes and gym classes on Wednesday, a piano class at home during one of my lunch breaks and a theater class on Friday between 5 and 6 pm.

Hello class. Here is some information about where we live in India. India is quite different , beautiful and a mix of various religions n culture. My daughter is doing her schooling online and has to do her exams online as well. She is in Grade 6 and is 11.

  • 1.37 billion people live in India (2019)
  • Official languages are Hindi and English,
  • The capital of India is New Delhi and the money is called the Rupee.
  • Most women wear a sari made of colorful silk or cotton.  The sari is one long piece of material that is draped around the body like a dress. Many men wear a dhoti which is a white piece of cloth wrapped around the hips and pulled through the legs. Not all people dress traditionally in India, but the clothing is always loose due to the heat.
  • Religion: mainly Hindus (80.5%), but also Muslims (13.4%) and other faiths
  • National Days: India has three national days: Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi's Birthday! India celebrates the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's birthday on 2 October as India's 'Father of the Nation' was born on this day in 1869. Gandhi led the Indian people into independence from the British rule. He inspired many people in other countries with his peaceful protest movement.
  • National Symbols: Lotus (national flower), tiger (national animal) and peacock (national bird).

Here are some pictures about India. I hope you like them and I hope you would like to come to India one day.
